Asbestos Use Increased in the United States in Recent Years

The USGS reported an increase in asbestos consumption in the United States. The 2012 United States Geological Survey Mineral Commodity Summaries report shows that the U.S. consumed 1,100 metric tons of asbestos fiber from January through July 2011. This is a significant increase over 2009 where the consumption was reported at 869 metric tons.
We have increased our use of asbestos by more than 26% between 2009 and the first half of 2011 in the United States.

Asbestos roofing products accounted for over 60% of the U.S. consumption.
