Many individuals are exposed to an asbestos disease that is diagnosed with Asbestosis, (a non-malignant scarring of the lungs) every year in Michigan. What you might not know is that if you received a settlement for asbestosis, and years later, even decades later, you receive a diagnosis of Primary Lung Cancer or Mesothelioma (cancer of the lining of the lung or lining of the abdomen), you or your family will be eligible to file a second disease case. Mesothelioma is another possible second disease that several of our clients have developed after being successful on their first case for asbestosis. Some patients may not remember where they have been exposed to asbestos. This is because mesothelioma disease is typically not diagnosed for 15 to 35 years after the initial asbestos exposure. Tobacco usage plays no role in the development of mesothelioma.
