Mesothelioma Awareness Day takes place every year on September 26. It was established in 2004 by the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. The day is a reminder of the impact this disease has on people across the country and the world and is an opportunity to raise awareness surrounding mesothelioma.
The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation is dedicated to:
Advocating for federal funding of Mesothelioma research
Funding treatment research
Providing financial grants to support patients and their families through a Mesothelioma diagnosis.
Due to the rarity of Mesothelioma, funds for researching it are limited. Mesothelioma day draws attention to the effort to continue to fund research surrounding Mesothelioma. Researchers are continuing to focus their efforts on:
Developing treatments to extend the life-expectancy after a Mesothelioma diagnosis
Finding a cure to Mesothelioma
Improving the tools and resources to diagnose Mesothelioma earlier.
