About Us
The Serling & Abramson law firm was founded in 1970 by Michael B. Serling. Mr. Serling was the first attorney in Michigan to file a wrongful death action on behalf of the family of a mesothelioma victim. In 1975, a young widow of an asbestos insulator contacted Mr. Serling concerning her husband who had died at age 52. She was left with two young children and was trying to raise them on a $4 per hour job. The extremely gratifying feeling of success in prosecuting the case and securing a sizable settlement for the widow and her children inspired Mr. Serling to continue this work.
Michael soon realized that it was more than just asbestos insulators who were falling victim to asbestos-related diseases. It soon became apparent that mesothelioma and lung cancer were occurring in virtually every building trade and many industrial settings. He dedicated his career to securing justice for all victims affected by asbestos exposure. Today, over 50 years later, Serling and Abramson are still representing victims of asbestos-related diseases, such as mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis.
In 1984, our firm was selected to represent over 300 school districts in the state of Michigan in a class-action lawsuit against numerous asbestos manufacturers and suppliers. The suit resulted in a recovery of over $120,000,000 to aid schools in safely removing asbestos products from over 2,000 school buildings across the state. Due to the hard work of Serling and Abramson, Michigan schools are safer for students, teachers, custodians, and visitors to the buildings.
In 1989, Eric Abramson was hired into our firm as an asbestos product exposure investigator. During that time, Mr. Abramson gained incredible experience in asbestos product identification in Michigan, the greater United States, and overseas. He became inspired to pursue a law degree and continued to work for the firm while in school. Mr. Abramson graduated with his Juris Doctor and was sworn into the Michigan bar in 2000.
Over the past 50+ years, our firm has been representing victims of asbestos disease. We have built an incredibly strong relationship with the many trade unions throughout Michigan and other states. These unions include asbestos insulators, electricians, plumbers, pipefitters, steel, chemical, and auto workers, boiler operators, boilermakers, bricklayers, carpenters, painters, sheet metal workers, and many more. Since the 1970s, we have acquired vast experience in asbestos litigation against major at-fault corporations, making us the go-to firm for all asbestos cases in Michigan.
While we remain the first and finest in asbestos litigation, Serling and Abramson have also expanded to help many clients in other personal injury and wrongful death cases.
Our firm has grown dramatically over the years. Building on our vast experience in the asbestos arena, Serling and Abramson have branched out to represent victims of personal injury and wrongful death in a variety of other litigation. We are proud to fight for the rights of victims of auto accidents, on-the-job injuries, defective medical devices, property damage, and unsafe prescription drugs. We have also partnered with law firms across the country and overseas, who specialize in cases of sexual abuse, Roundup weed killer, and environmental contamination.
Our firm is committed to seeing that justice is served on behalf of our clients. As Eric Abramson has stated, “Even though we cannot restore our clients’ health or their lives, we can bring some measure of comfort and justice to them and their families.”
